5 Fantastic Loxone Air Products To Add To Your Smart Home

In this blog, we’re taking a look at five Loxone Air products that offer real home-enhancing potential for the very minimum of fuss.

Loxone Air was introduced in 2014 to offer a completely integrated, fully compatible Loxone Smart Home system to those who do not wish to re-wire their homes. The great thing about Loxone Air is that it’s equally happy being a standalone wireless system or integrated with an existing wired Loxone system.

First things first, if you have a wired installation, you’ll need to check to see if you have an Air Base Extension. The Air Base Extension sits in the cabinet next to your Miniserver and enables wireless communication between Loxone Air products.

If you have a Miniserver Go, you won’t need an Air Base Extension, as it’s already built-in.

Water Sensor Air

If your home is new, you may have spent hundreds, if not thousands, of pounds on new flooring for your home. Likewise, if your home is older, you may have spent considerable time and effort replacing flooring or restoring original floors. The Water Sensor Air is a cost-effective and compact little device that helps you keep those floors safe from water damage – a burst pipe or leaking washing machine can cause considerable damage in a very short space of time.

Simply place the little blue sensor wherever it’s needed – under the sink, bath or washing machine, in the basement, or anywhere where there could potentially be a water leak. The two contacts on the underside will trigger the alarm the moment they come into contact with water.

Smart Socket Air

In an ideal world, we’d wire every socket in the home to be controllable, but sometimes practicality (not to mention budget) restraints get in the way. That’s where the Smart Socket Air can help. It makes any normal plug socket part of your Loxone Smart Home. So if you’ve decided to reposition your favourite lamp to the other side of the room, but still want to tie it into your lighting moods, for example, it’s no problem.

The Smart Socket Air is also ideal for appliances or small devices that you may use in several rooms in the house like fans, hair straighteners or phone chargers. The Smart Socket Air has a temperature sensor and an inbuilt energy consumption monitor too, so you can easily keep track of how much energy your appliances are using.

Door & Window Contact Air

Again, this is a great one if the build budget didn’t quite stretch to adding wired door & window contacts, or if your home is older and was not wired for them. It’s also very handy for extensions, garages and sheds.

One of the biggest advantages for Door & WIndows Contacts is security. With a burglary now occurring every 40 seconds in London and unsecured doors and windows being a favourite entry point for burglars, it offers peace of mind if you’re prone to worrying about break-ins when you’re away from home.

That’s not all the Door & Window Contact Air is good for though, as it can also help with energy efficiency. If the heating is on and you open a window in say, the bedroom, the heating will stop actively heating the room to prevent you (quite literally) throwing heat and money out of the window. Of course, this feature would rely on your heating system also being linked into your Loxone system. If it’s not, why not chat to a Loxone Partner about your options?

Just pop the Door & Window Contact Air inside your window or door frame, and it will keep track of when it’s open or closed. You can receive notifications if a door or window is opened unexpectedly when you’re not at home, or receive reminders if you’ve left the garage or shed door open, for example. If you have compatible motorised windows or garage doors linked to your Loxone system, you can go a step further and have them close automatically if they’re left open by accident.

The Door & Window Contact is available in White and Anthracite to suit even the fanciest of fenestration.

Motion Sensor Air

Another wireless weapon in your smart security arsenal – the motion sensor is discreet yet powerful. One of the great things about it, however, is that you don’t just have to use it just for security. Your little motion sensor can be configured to control your lighting, audio and more. Regularly wake at night to use the loo or see to the baby? The motion sensor can pick up your presence and turn the landing and/or bathroom lights on at 20% brightness to give you enough light to see by, without waking other family members.

Remote Air

Small but mighty, the Loxone Remote Air is your handy go-to device for controlling functions of your choice. Compact and lightweight, it can be used for pretty much anything you like – you can assign the five buttons according to your personal choice or stick to the standard button settings. Why not keep one in the car and use it to open the garage door when you arrive home? No need to hop out of the car in the pouring rain anymore. It’s the little things…

And one for luck….The Loxone Touch

I couldn’t leave out the Loxone Touch! Now, for those who’ve had the luxury of being able to design the location of their switches, this may not apply. However, if like me, your light switches are located behind your doors (why, oh why), having to reach around the door just to switch the light on becomes pretty tiresome, pretty fast. Enter the Loxone Touch Air. It’s battery powered, so you can place one wherever you like – by your bed, next to the sofa, inside cupboards, and so on*.

The Loxone Touch Air, for those who are not already familiar, is a five point capacitive touch switch. It has a large central touch point and four corner points. It can be used to control other aspects of your home in addition to lighting – the most common are music and blinds. Check out the Loxone Switch Standard to find out more about our recommendations for using switches in your smart home.

**If you plan to install the Loxone Touch in a bathroom, please speak to your Loxone Partner to ensure it is suitably placed to meet the necessary regulations.
