1. Dream house provides comfort and safety for me and my family
My desire to own a home reflects basic human need for privacy, protection and safety. My expectations are higher, though – I want a home that is healthy, comfortable and environmentally friendly. 2. Perfect insulation ensures both energy savings & low environmental impact
Quality materials (insulation, airtight windows and doors) along with latest procedures allow me to build a family house, that needs very little energy for favorable thermal comfort. Even in the worst of winter frosts, I can count on an input of as little as 3 kW – slightly more than an electric kettle – to keep my home warm.
The focus on insulation is justified. A good insulation reduces environmental impact of the house and creates conditions for optimal thermal comfort at the same time. I will enjoy a more stable indoor climate with no temperature fluctuations.
In addition, it has a significant impact on the technological equipment of a house. The better the building envelope, the simpler, cheaper and less operationally demanding technology the house requires.
3. I want to understand the technologies I use
I do not seek overly complicated solutions. I believe the most advanced technology may be complex on the inside, but at the same time, it should be intuitive and simple on the outside. When building an energy-efficient house, I know I need to focus on four aspects:
Heating
Cooling
Ventilation
Hot water
4. I want to breathe fresh outdoor air even inside my house
When I invest in insulated windows, it doesn’t make sense to me to open them in their ventilation or micro ventilation mode during winter, as the heat escapes and subsequent condensation damages window seals. I want to ventilate my house the right way – with a continuous supply of fresh air and steady thermal comfort. That is why I opt for a ventilation unit with heat and moisture recovery.
Thanks to controlled ventilation, I am sure to have an excellent air quality inside my house. At the same time I avoid heat losses and inconvenience of window ventilation.
In addition to savings, I also evaluate the impact of controlled ventilation on my health and comfort. After showering, I no longer have to open bathroom windows even though it is freezing outside, nor worry about the formation of mold in places with poor air circulation like bathroom corners or shower stalls.
I like spending time outside and enjoying fresh air. Futura ventilation unit with heat and moisture recovery creates similar conditions inside my house, while leaving all potential nuisances like bad weather, noise, dust or pollen behind.
5. Healthy environment means optimum humidity
I want to monitor not only the supply of fresh air, but also its humidity and keep it at optimum level. Ventilation units without enthalpy exchanger supply dry air, with humidity levels dropping below 15 % rH during winter months. This suboptimal indoor environment decreases durability of wooden flooring and furniture and makes my family more susceptible to respiratory infections.
Using a controlled enthalpy exchanger solves this issue for me. I do not need to invest in a humidifier, nor think about other ways of humidifying air inside my house. 6. I love summer, but want to keep my home cool during summer months
I do not wear a winter coat once the weather gets warmer. My house can not take its insulation off in warm weather, though. I have to count on heat gains, that will gradually warm my house up and because of the insulation, the heat will remain trapped inside. When the outside temperatures rise, opening windows is not an effective way of cooling down.
I will minimize heat gains by exterior window blinds and roof overhang or, if possible, take advantage of natural shading provided by trees or greenery. Despite these precautions, I want to ensure a supply of cool air. My energy-efficient house will not require regular air-condition to maintain enjoyable temperature during summer. All I need is Futura’s additional module CoolBreeze that provides more natural cooling effect.
CoolBreeze supplies cool air of 15 – 19 °C (60 – 66 °F). Futura with CoolBreeze combines conventional cooling with adiabatic cooling effect. Fresh air is cooled and dehumidified in two stages: in CoolBreeze’s evaporator and in Futura’s heat exchanger. That means it is cooled off with half the power consumption than a conventional cooling would require.
I understand, that the “real feel” temperature is a combination of temperature and humidity. Heat feels more intense, when the humidity is high. CoolBreeze removes excess moisture from supplied air and keeps it at a lower, more tolerable level. That’s why my house does not feel hot, even if the indoor temperature reaches 25 °C (77 °F). Using CoolBreeze helps me avoid drastic temperature changes and sudden blasts of cold, dry air from air conditioning, which are unnatural, unpleasant and may exacerbate respiratory diseases.
7. Heating my energy-efficient house is easy
Investing in a well-insulated house creates twofold savings: my house has low heat losses, which helps me save on utility bills and at the same time does not require a complicated heating system, which saves my initial investment costs.
Jablotron Volta electric boiler is an ideal heating system solution for energy-efficient houses. Smart algorithm ensures continuous monitoring, so Volta can supply just enough heat to keep the house warm.
I will also benefit from CoolBreeze module: in winter, CoolBreeze operates in reverse mode and works as a heat pump. It is able to heat supplied air with a power of several hundred watts and a high efficiency factor (approximately 4x). This provides further electricity savings.
The air heated by CoolBreeze complements the radiant heat of the Volta boiler. This way I can effortlessly achieve stable thermal comfort all-year-round.
8. When heating water, I take advantage of its natural heat-accumulating properties
Who does not love a long hot shower or a steaming bath after a long day? They feel wonderfully relaxing. However, the utility bill for hot water may not be that relaxing. In my low-energy house, the biggest share of energy consumption is spent on hot water supply. That is why I pay attention to the way the water is heated and opt for Jablotron Ambienta – a water heater with heat pump.
I draw energy from the outside environment so as not to cool the utility room unnecessarily. I appreciate that Ambienta requires minimal maintenance and is simple to control. The heater operates autonomously and heats 250 liters of water continuously. In case the temperature drops below 5 °C (40 °F), electric coil is used as a bivalent source of heating.
Ambienta’s COP (coefficient of performance) is 2.8, which means it significantly decreases energy requirements of my house.
